What is an AGM?

Have you ever encountered the term "AGM" and wondered what it means?

AGM stands for Annual General Meeting, and it is a mandatory yearly gathering of an organization's members. This meeting is held to discuss the organization's financial performance, elect board members, and make important decisions about future programming & events.

The AGM is an essential event for community members because it allows them to have a say in the centre's direction. During the meeting, community members can ask questions about the center's mission and programming and vote on important decisions affecting the organization's future.

One of the most critical aspects of an AGM is the election of the board of directors. The board is responsible for making strategic decisions about the centre's future, and community members need to elect people they trust to do this job. During the meeting, community members vote for board members, and the results are announced at the end of the meeting.

Board of Directors - Positions

  • President - Chair of the board / public face of the organization.

  • Vice President - Assists the president in the organization's success.

  • Secretary - administrative and communication-related duties.

  • Treasurer - Financial overseer for the organization.

  • Building/Grounds - Responsible for facility maintenance and care.

  • Fundraising - Responsible for fundraising planning & activities.

  • Volunteer Coordinator - Responsible for maintaining the volunteer database & coordinating volunteers for events & programming.

  • Sports - Convenor to organize & facilitate sports programming.

  • Social Media / Website - Responsible for updating and maintaining the centre's website and social media correspondence.

  • Members at Large - Board members who help assist in any capacity needed.

In conclusion, AGMs are an essential part of an organization's governance structure. They provide community members with a forum to discuss the center's performance, elect board members, and make important decisions about the organization's future.

Any interested community member can be nominated for a position on the board of directors. We encourage everyone to come out and see what our AGM is all about and meet our fantastic group of volunteers who comprise our Board of Directors.

We welcome you to join us for our annual AGM on March 13th, 2024 at 6:00 pm.
